Quick Facts About Pahrump Name: The southern Paiutes, who occupied the Pahrump Valley centuries ago, named our Valley "Pah" meaning water, and "Rimpi" meaning stone or rock. Pah Rimpi became Pahrump.
Location: The Pahrump Valley is located in the southwest corner of Nye County, 63 miles northwest of Las Vegas and 8 miles from the California border.
Area:The valley is approximately 29 miles long and 8 to 12 miles wide. Approximately 400 square miles.
Population: At the present estimated to be 33,000
Terrain: An elevation of 2696 feet above sea level surrounded by the Nopah Mountains and the Spring Mountain Range. Pahrump is in the driest region, enjoying the lowest average relative humidity in the country. Although Pahrump does not receive much rainfall, there is plenty of water underground. Pahrump is sitting on the 3rd largest aquifer in the U.S..
Climate/Weather: Summers are typical of high desert. Maximum daytime temperatures reaches into the 100's at times. Because of the elevation, nights are usually cool. Spring and Fall 60's in March, reaching to the 90's by May. By late September 90's drop to the 60's by November. Winter nights get cold temperatures dropping to freezing for short periods, but usually warm to the mid 50's.
